Part One – The Horror, Stereotypes, Misconceptions and Truth About Asian Women
”Being an Asian female is a uniquely interesting experience in the sexual realm.
It is almost impossible, at least from my perspective, to separate the societal pros from the cons. They are so intrinsically linked. On the one hand, we enjoy the benefits of being prized in society as sexual partners. In particular the majority, i.e. straight white men, and because of that, we have the pick of the litter, so to speak.
In the same breath, however, the reasons we are prized are repressive and based off of inaccurate and outdated stereotypes associated with Asian women. We are prized because we are considered to be meek, submissive, and obedient. These are the reasons why we are so heavily fetishized.
It’s quite disturbing to recognize the almost perfectly opposite position we occupy in society’s sexual hierarchy compared to the black woman. The reasons ‘men’ list when they say they won’t date black women are that they’re too loud, too outspoken, too strong, too much to handle. These are precisely the opposite of reasons why they prefer Asian women. The pro is men like us. The con is why they like us.” – April Y.
I want to begin by acknowledging the “Comfort Women.” They were taken by force to become sex slaves for the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. This exploitation was an historical injustice perpetrated against approximately 200,000 young women. For instance, Korean, Chinese, Filipina, Taiwanese, Burmese, Indonesian and Dutch women were all victimized.
Japanese soldiers sexualized, degraded, dehumanized and brutalized the women. To this day, they never received a formal apology or direct retribution from the Japanese government for this heinous crime.
The “Comfort Women’s” story is just one example of many of the appalling mistreatments and historical lack of regard for Asian females. Tragically, this type of degradation continues today with Chanel Miller’s story. In 2015, Stanford University student athlete Brock Turner raped Ms. Miller and discarded her behind a dumpster. Although Turner was tried for his crime, presiding Judge Aaron Persky sentenced him to serve only three months behind bars. The judge felt “a harsher punishment would leave a severe impact on him”.
Turner and the Imperial Army both committed violent, savage, profane, gruesome, and senseless attacks against Asian women. In the process, the women were reduced to one simple function. Bodies fucked and tossed away. In the end, all the criminals got away with it!
The Power of Stereotypes
From yesterday to today, why on God’s green earth are some men still getting away with mistreatment of Asian women?
Society’s stereotypical image of Asian women is one of the reasons. That image defines them as meek, submissive, obedient, delicate, passive, and possessing no voice to speak up. Therefore, they lack power and control to make decisions and confront wrongdoing. Men can take advantage of and abuse Asian women and get away with it. After all is said and done, Asian women’s humanity is still not recognized.
In part II of this blog, I will share truths about Asian women. I will shed light on how they proclaim and establish their full humanity.
